Religious speech under pressure (follow-up from last prayer-letter)
Since last prayer letter, a law on freedom of expression with a specific focus on religious speech has been passed in Denmark. According to the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR), the freedoms of religion and speech has come under pressure in recent years.
“There’s been a significant change here in Denmark, where we have traditionally protected these rights fiercely,” said Louise Holck, the deputy head of DIHR. For instance, there is a limitation of freedom of expression during religious training, that does not apply to politicians etc.
“In trying to protect our society against undemocratic forces, we must be wary not to forfeit some of our own fundamental freedom rights in the process. Moreover, the legislation has especially affected religious minorities in Denmark, who are already under pressure to practice their religions”, Louise Holck says.
Thank you for praying for this area. Although the law was passed some positive changes were made because some Christian and political leaders manage to impact the law in a more positive direction.
An important prayer: Continue to pray that the preaching of the Gospel will not be hindered because of this or future laws.
Pray for God to raise up national Christian leaders to impact the nation
- We need national leaders with an ability to hear from God, in which direction he wishes to lead the church.
- Pray for leaders who will build the work of God on a national scale
- Pray for unity among believers so they will support the local churches and leaders.
Pray the following prayer for Denmark
“Lord, send a prayer revival in Denmark and let your kingdom be manifested in a mightier way. Let us not just try to make up new methods with our own ideas, but inspire the believers in Denmark to go as you lead them by your Spirit.”
Continue to pray for refugees and foreigners
- As we have mentioned there is now a window of opportunity among refugees. Over 500 Muslims have converted to Christ in the last couple of years.
- Pray that they will be grounded in their new faith.
- Pray that they will receive strength and wisdom to share their faith.
- Pray that the Danish pastors and churches will be able to understand and integrate them.
Other focus areas
- ”Pray… ”for kings (our queen, prime minister etc.) and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” 1 Tim 2,1-2
- Christians taking responsibility in bringing Christian values to society
- A Spirit of prayer. That there will be an awakening of a hunger for the presence of God.
- That God will raise up boldness in His people to be light and salt to the world. Pray that the Christians will have strength to speak up for what they believe.
- Release of God’s power. Pray according to Acts 4,29-31.
